Web development is an interesting mix of art, marketing, and technical skills. I first had access to the Internet during my final year of high school, and there wasn’t much online at the time. During my college years, the Internet boomed, and I found that I was very intrigued with websites and wanted to create one someday.
Below is a summary of my web development experience:
- 2000-2002 – Khalsa International Inc. I maintained a vitamin and bookstore website using Microsoft Front Page. Approximately 60 products were on the website, and I was responsible for maintaining site usability and product information. #ecommerce
- 2001-2011 – Personal. I expanded my web development skills with Front Page and WordPress. I maintained several personal websites, including one with hundreds of pages and thousands of visitors every month. #lifestyle
- 2009-2019 – UNLV Alumni Association. I built a website with Blackbaud NetCommunity (CMS). This site interacted with the companion database and allowed alumni and friends to interact with their data live through the website. This website had thousands of pages and images with an average of 5,000 unique users per month. Functionality on this website included static informational pages, ecommerce product pages, ecommerce event registration, a private social network (yes! A social network with 40k registered users but only 1k active users per month), and an Internet site with many dynamic forms, file storage, and other tools employees and volunteers would interact with regularly. This website also integrated with a mobile app which I led to completion along with a firm called MindGrub. #ecommerce #intranet #business #database #lifestyle #mobileapp
- 2019-2020 – Focus Consultants. With my private company, I built several WordPress websites for client businesses, most notably for FutureTek, Inc and Southern Nevada Pain Center. #business
- 2020-present – Current Employer. With my current employer, I have built three business websites for the company using WordPress and have continued to maintain them. #business
Today, I’m comfortable working in WordPress and other content management systems. But for new site development, I prefer sticking with WordPress and would prefer to maintain a site that someone else built. Web development will always be a hobby, but it’s not a major focus of my professional path going forward.
