Managing a company’s new hire recruitment and onboarding process is one of my favorite activities. I love working with hiring managers to identify what they need in a new employee, writing job descriptions and postings, screening candidates, interviews, reference checks, and offers. Basically, everything about hiring!
Here’s my work experience with recruitment:
- 2000-2002 – Frontier Behavioral Health. My role with the company was managing the hiring process from end to end. On average, I would have around 10 to 20 open recruitments at any time. This was before Internet applications, so all applications were received using our hard copy form, meaning the number of applications was nothing like what we see today. My role included screening applications, conducting initial phone screenings, meeting with hiring managers to review applications, conducting reference checks and background checks, negotiating salary and start dates, and conducting new employee orientation and onboarding sessions.
- 2008-2019 – UNLV Alumni Association. I was responsible for sourcing, screening, selection, training, and management of top students for the prestigious Presidential Student Ambassadors Program. These students interacted with top donors and were a key component of the financial development strategy for the university president. After managing this function for three years, I moved over to managing all volunteer programs using alumni talent. I had to source, screen, select, train, supervise, and direct their work in this role. As you can imagine, Las Vegas is full of big personalities, and managing volunteers is challenging. I successfully built relationships that stood the test of time and grew the volunteer program from 18 volunteers to nearly 3,000 when I departed. In addition, I led dozens of active searches for professional employees for the department and others across campus.
- 2019-2020 – Focus Consultants. While working with my business, I handled numerous client recruitment activities. I successfully hired marketing communications professionals, software/technology leaders, field technicians, administrative assistants, and more.
- 2020-present – Current Employer. With my current employer, I handle all open recruitments for the Las Vegas and Indianapolis offices, plus any remote opportunities. During my tenure, I filled roughly 40 positions and handled everything recruitment-related, from sourcing to onboarding/orientation. In this role, I filled positions in finance and accounting, software engineering, application support, database management, technology leadership, sales, sales management, marketing communications, and more.
I highly enjoy recruitment and anticipate being involved in recruitment-related activities throughout the rest of my career.
